Q&A With Amanda Seyfried
Written by Becca on April 1st, 2010

Amanda Seyfried first gained notice in a supporting part in “Mean Girls” (2004) and held her own against Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan in “Mamma Mia!” (2008).
Now you can call her a legitimate star. Within three months, she front-lined a movie, “Dear John,” that was No. 1 in the country, albeit briefly; she gave out an Oscar with Miley Cyrus at the Academy Awards; her acclaimed HBO series, “Big Love,” is still going strong; and she is now starring in Canadian auteur Atom Egoyan’s latest film, “Chloe.”

Seyfried, 24, plays the title character, a mentally unbalanced prostitute, and co-stars with Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. The role requires nudity, maturity and real acting chops.

The Allentown, Pa., native recently stopped by San Francisco to chat.

Q: “Chloe” is a change of pace for you – a far cry from “Mamma Mia!”

A: I’d like to do more serious roles – it’s much more fun to play people you can’t relate to. I mean, I’ve been playing myself for six years, so it’s really good to play a different character.

Q: And yet, you are again the younger person in a film full of established, A-list legends. First Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan in “Mamma,” now Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in “Chloe.” Do you ever get intimidated around such stars?

A: Yes. I’m still intimidated by Meryl. Which is sad, because she doesn’t lend herself that way. She’s really super cool and smart and generous, but I don’t … I couldn’t really get over that. But with Julianne it was different because that’s when I started letting go of all that and felt that I was good enough, that I belonged. You have to feel good enough to be good enough.

Q: You didn’t think you were good enough before?

A: Well, it’s just that I’ve learned since then to separate that and go into a movie feeling as an equal. Because if I look at Julianne Moore and feel that I’m not just good enough, I’m not getting it done. And also, she treated me like an equal, which is special. … Now I realize that no matter who you’re working with, whether they are an Academy Award-winning actor or an amateur, you treat everyone the same.

Q: I would think being intimidated like that would hamper you the most between action and cut. You have to be thinking of your own performance, and yet there’s this legendary actor standing right in front of you waiting for you to deliver your lines.

A: Yeah, that’s the scariest part, really. I remember when I was doing a scene with Meryl – the slip-through-my-fingers sequence – after each take I’d be like, ‘I wasn’t sure if she liked what I was doing, if she was connecting with what I was doing.’ I was so insecure. And that was over halfway through the movie, and I was still feeling like, ‘I hope that was good!’ I didn’t say it out loud, but it was really confusing and stupid.

Q: Is that your most embarrassing moment on a film set?

A: No. The moment I met Nicholas Sparks (author of “Dear John”), I said, ‘I love your books, especially “Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas.” ‘ And he didn’t write it. That was Mr. James Patterson. I’ve read all of James Patterson’s books, by the way.

Q: Now that you’re established, do you see yourself making more studio films, or independents?

A: I’ll probably make more studio films. It’s hard for everybody; it feels like there’s no imagination right now, but it’s even tougher (to make an independent). I’m trying to get this independent film made right now that I love, that I’m totally signed on for. And I can’t get Zac Efron, and we can’t get Ed Harris. You’ve got to have all your balls in play.

Amanda says Chloe helped her Evolve as an Actress
Written by Becca on March 26th, 2010

Amanda Seyfried has come a long way from the dimwitted Karen in “Mean Girls,” having recently wrapped a four-year run on HBO’s “Big Love” and achieving box-office success with “Dear John.” But that’s not to say that the actress isn’t worried about getting stereotyped. She doesn’t want to become synonymous with the horror genre after “Jennifer’s Body,” for instance, or even as a romantic lead due to her work on “Dear John.”

In order to combat typecasting, Seyfried took the radical route of becoming a call girl and seducing Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. Not in reality, of course, but as the title character in “Chloe,” a seductive thriller that Seyfried intentionally pursued to avoid getting pinned to any one genre.
“I’m so many levels beyond [what I'm used to] because ['Chloe' is] so intense, and it really is a character that’s just kind of sick, and that’s really fun to play,” Seyfried told MTV News. “It makes me feel like I’ve evolved a little bit as an actor too. I mean, maybe I haven’t, but it makes me feel like I have!”

Seyfried said she’s learned a lot about her craft from co-stars like Meryl Streep in “Mamma Mia!” and Moore in “Chloe.” “When you watch somebody like Julianne and Meryl and you can be around them for 12 hours a day, you absorb it all, kind of what they’re doing, how they behave, how they respond to things. It’s something that becomes innately part of how I behave as well,” Seyfried said. “[Moore is] very professional and she separates her work from her real life, her family, and she’s completely focused at all times, but she can also have fun between takes.”

Beyond acting, Seyfried learned something else from Moore: “She’s a great kisser! She’s beautiful. She’s a great actress. What more can I say? It was amazing.”

Chloe Interview
Written by Becca on March 24th, 2010

“Chloe” is a sexual psycho thriller starring Amanda Seyfried, Julianne Moore, and Liam Neeson. The film revolves around Catherine a married woman who suspects that her husband,a professor, might be having an affair with one of his fellow students. She then seeks out “Chloe” an escort to test her husbands infidelity. Catherine soon finds herself caught in a web of sexual desire. Not knowing what “Chloe” will do next Catherine must find a way to protect her family.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down and speak with Amanda Seyfried about her new film “Chloe.” You wont see me in this interview since it was a one camera interview but if you listen closely I’m the one asking questions in the background. I asked Amanda what drew her to this sexual role and if she received any pointers from any escorts. I also asked her about filming her first nude and same sex scene with Julianne Moore. We defiantly see a new side to Amanda in this film.

“Chole” opens in theaters March 26. Check it out
